Painted Photographs

Is an alternative form of photography that goes back to the beginning of the art of photography to add color.  I do mostly landscape photography, believing that each of my works contains a message that comes from God.  As I go through life I feel that connection or message and snap a photo.  Each photo is titled with the message.  I then print and paint the photo, most of the time using water and watercolor paint.  The process is using light from God to make an image (photography). I use the ability to hand modify each piece to emphasize its intrinsic meaning.  I like to explore new ways to connect with the image and message.  I enjoy the ability to give you a unique work of art every time.  Each of these is a one of a kind original!  Please enjoy, I love connecting to people through art and ideas. Repent

There is always a way out!  This photo starts with the sky, the darkness.  Sometimes you loose pieces of yourself in the darkness.  I left a lot of the little branches lost in the sky to emphasize the point of being lost in the darkness.  I also feel like the cracked look the water created adds to the feel.  The barn and trees help keep the tree grounded and stand out against the darkness.  Don’t loose yourself in the darkness, remember what keeps you grounded.  When you make a mistake, and loose a piece, repent, you can always be forgiven!!!!  Don’t get lost forever.  Painted photograph, taken in Lincoln University PA.

Strong

Stay strong like the ever green!  Stand firm and don't lose your color when everything else around is dark and bleak. It is the little things in life that make up the bigger things that make the difference. Stay strong through the winter like the evergreen.

Silhouetto of a Man

Have you ever felt like a silhouette of a person?  Something so bad happened that you felt so overwhelmed, forsaken, you had to get out, you were going to die, then …nothing.  Now you are just a silhouette, lost in the gray blue sky of this picture, now nothing really matters.  Will your pain make a mark on the world?  Make your pain worth it.  I took this while listening to the song “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. Watercolor painted photograph on watercolor paper.  Photo taken in Kennett Square Pennsylvania.

The light at the beginning

A single, bright and colorful tree stands out in the middle of the cold forest. The light illuminates the leaves, making it stand out among the rest. The light is the spirit shining on this tree, and you, the light at the beginning is you. Let it shine and stand out among the rest of the trees. I took this photo while thinking about my daughter, who definitely stands out among the crowd with her inner light. 16x20 in. Pastel manipulated photography on watercolor paper.  Photograph taken in French Creek Pennsylvania.

Blood and Gold

This painted photograph of two trees branches intermingling one in shadow and one strongly lit by the sun represents the balancing forces of good and evil.  Enhanced with a little extra red the trees almost seam like blood vessels, the struggle within to be true to our family belief and not give in to the world full of golden pleasures.  Watercolor painted photograph on watercolor paper.  Photo taken in Oxford Pennsylvania.

Don't Lose Touch

This photo was taken while driver at 45mph, I only saw the fence post and house in the shape of the cross when I looked later.  I was listening to the Against Me song Don't Lose Touch.  What a POWERFUL MESSAGE.  11x14 in. Painted photograph using watercolors.  Photograph taken in Cochranville Pennsylvania.

Unforgiven

This was created to express the feelings of PTSD.  Not just the idea of the individual being Unforgiven, but the ability for the individual to forgive others.  What you do day to day effects everyone differently, think about how your actions affect others, especially the little things.  Why is that person who cut you off alive when others who sacrificed their life for the greater good are not alive? What will you do with this one life you have, day-to-day in the little interactions.  I see my husband deal with these thoughts and wanted to express my interpretation of this idea.  A hot sort of tunnel feeling, explosions in the shapeless darkness.  Acrylic on canvas, very stylized version of a photo taken in Cochranville PA.

Unlikely Friends

There are sometimes where two opposite things come together in such a way that they don't seem opposite at all. This image shows the moon setting over trees and a field that are lit by the morning sun. Similar to the idea of opposites attract, you can become friends with someone you never thought you would.  I find that those relationships are some of the best, never be afraid to start an unlikely friendship.  Image is a watercolor painted photograph 16x20".  Available framed or Unframed

Faith

Faith is an amazing feeling, sometimes it sets you apart from others.  Painted photograph using watercolors.  Photograph taken in West Chester Pennsylvania while listening to the Kid Rock song Lonley Road of Faith.

Stop taking ourselves too seriously

The message here is to relax and don't be too serious. Do you think cows worry about how they look or what the other cows think about them?  "Don't take life, so seriously, you'll never get out alive."  Painted photograph on watercolor paper.  Photograph taken in Cochranville Pennsylvania while listening to the song Don't Lose Touch by against me.

Don't Stop Believing

Don't stop believing in magic and something bigger.  When you look at the sun rise or set you can see, don't stop believing.  This photograph was taken in Lincoln University Pennsylvania, painted photograph on watercolor paper.

Rise up

Like the growing corn stalks, rise up above your worries and issues, grow beyond.  Painted photograph on watercolor paper.  Photograph taken in chester county Pennsylvania on rt 82 while listening to the song rise by sixx:a.m.

Uncertain

We are in uncertain times with lots of termoil, much like the sky before a storm.  Slow down to see the beauty and direction in this experience.  Painted photograph using watercolors.  Photograph taken in Cochranville Pennsylvania.

Love got me in and Love got me out

Love makes life worth living, it might get you into trouble, but it will get you out as well!  The sun can burn and it can also light your way.  I was listening to ol' red by Blake Shelton.  Painted photograph using watercolors.  Photograph taken in Lionville Pennsylvania.

Nothing Else Matters

What really matters in life?  What do you cling to, like the frost, that makes your life beautiful?  I was listening to the Metallica  song Nothing else matters.  Painted photograph using watercolors.  Photograph taken in Chester County Pennsylvania.

Who is a schizophrenic psycho

A schizophrenic mind is fractured, everybody feels a little fractured at some point. In this picture the fractured pieces make up a bigger beautiful picture, it is OK to feel a little fractured those pieces make up the bigger more beautiful you.  I was listening to the Puddle of Mudd.song psycho. Painted photograph using watercolors.  Photograph taken in West Chester Pennsylvania.

I was made for loving you

Looking out at the setting sun over a beautiful landscape makes me feel small and full. Like I was made to sit there forever. Or was a scene like this created just so could fall in love with its beauty? It then becomes unclear were we made for nature or was nature made for us. This photograph was taken while listening to the song I was made for loving you by kiss. Painted photograph using watercolors.  Photograph taken in Cochranville Pennsylvania.

Gimme three steps

Sometimes you just need to give someone or something a chance, just three steps can change your life.  This photograph was taken while listening to the song Gimme Three Steps by lynyrd skyward.  Painted photograph using watercolors.  Photograph taken in Cochranville Pennsylvania

Friends in Low Places

Who made Who

Who makes the shadow, the sun or the cloud?  Light or dark, good and evil, god and man?  The shadows of clouds always fascinate me, they are so big and add a deepness to the landscape, just like these questions. This photograph was taken while listening the song who made who by AC/DC. Painted photograph using watercolors.  Photograph taken in West Chester Pennsylvania.
